Visakhapatnam, the city of destiny and the Jewel City of East Coast (also known as
“Vizag” or
“Waltair”) is the largest and scenic town of Andhra Pradesh in South India. The city is amidst
the Eastern Ghats facing the Bay of Bengal.
It
has a tropical wet and dry climate with an
annual average temperature of 28.4 degrees Celsius (83.1 degrees Fahrenheit). We have
greater rainfall during the summer months compared to the winter.
Visakhapatnam is home to the country’s first naval base with an integrated Steel Plant. Its
natural harbour is formed by two promontories. It is the country’s second largest port by
volume of cargo handled.
The city of Visakhapatnam is an attractive place for tourists with its scenic locations. The
greatest tourist spots - the Kailasagiri Hills, Rushikonda, Rama Krishna, Bheemili and Yarada
beaches, the Submarine Museum, Dolphin Nose Hill and ancient Buddhist sites are the
nearest places to spend joyful time.
The city also has panoramic hill stations such as Araku Valley and Lambasingi with beautiful
view of the valleys and waterfalls and ideal places for cool climate, strawberry and coffee
plantations and the houses of 17 tribal societies. The Borra Caves near the Araku valley
attracts its visitors and are one of the largest caves in India. The Ananthagiri hill range and
Katiki waterfalls refresh the visitors during the summer with a pleasant view.
Vishakhapatnam airport is well networked with many major cities of India like Mumbai,
Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad. The airport is almost 16 km from the core are of the city.
